Project Sweet Life by Brent Hartinger

Rating: 5/5 Stars
Genre: Contemporary
Release Date: 2/3/09
About the Book: This was going to be a great summer for Dave, Curtis and Victor until their dads decided they needed to get summer jobs. Everyone knows that fifteen is the last chance you get to enjoy your summer before sixteen and jobs comes along! So instead of working, the friends decide they are going to have the sweet life. All they need to do is somehow raise the money they would have gotten by working all summer, and once that's done, they get all summer to hang out. But making $7,000 isn't as easy as it seems. Can they make their money without breaking the law or working too hard and still have time to enjoy the sweet life?
GreenBeanTeenQueen Says: This was another gem from the ALSC conference I attended several months ago, so thank you HarperTeen for treating us librarians to such great books! When I first read the summary, I immediately thought of my brother. He's fifteen and this sounded exactly like something he would try and plan.
When I finally got around to reading it, I wish I had started it sooner. This book was hilarious and had me turning pages to see what the next Project Sweet Life plan would be. The best part was that none of it ever felt like it was unrealistic-I really believed that the crazy adventures and money schemes could actually work!
Author Brent Hartinger has the perfect voice of teen boys. His characters sounded exactly like the teen boys I know. This would make a great pick for reluctant readers but is still a great treat for those who love reading. I can't wait to share this with my teens.

  6. I would give it to him if he was capable of reading anything more than the back of the cereal box. I have been trying to get him to read for years but think I need to admit defeat on that.

  7. Sounds good. It's always good to have a teen boy as the main character, maybe it'll get more boys to read. :)

My littler brother (I call him little, but he's really 21 lol) is reading the Vampire Academy series right now. He also read BOTH of Darren Shan's Series.

  9. Hey Sarah:

Thanks for the very kind review. I am, in fact, a 15 year-old boy! (Actually, no I'm not, but my inner 15 year-old boy is alive and well...)

Bedtime Books for the Weary

Today I'm over at the ALSC Blog talking about some of my new favorite bedtime-themed books!

13 District Mockingjay Tour: District 4

Hello and welcome to District Four. I'm sorry that Finnick isn't here to be your host. I know as a member of District Four I should be cheering for my own tribute, but after watching the last two Hunger Games play out I have fallen in love with Peeta Mellark! Why do I love Peeta? He's smart, he's funny, and he's charming. He stands up for what he believes, he's loyal and he's not afraid to do what's right. He's sensitive and caring but can also be strong and kick butt. He fights for Katniss and with Katniss. Peeta is a great diplomat and he knows how to bring people together. He can also be sneaky to get what he wants. Plus, did I mention he can bake? And he's hot!! But it's not just me! We have an underground club of sorts here in District Four-Seafaring Librarians for Peeta! Here's what some of our members had to say about their love for Peeta: - Team Peeta!! I love their relationship because they balance each other perfectly. Where
