Rating 4/5 Stars
Genre: Historical/Gossipy Romance Release Date: 1/27/2009 About the Book: A newly married couple that are the talk of society. The husband's former lover. The darling of society, broken and mourning. And a social climber who could fall at any moment. It’s 1900 in New York and scandal and gossip are never far behind.
GreenBeanTeenQueen Says: Why oh why do I love this series? I know that things aren't going to go the way I want, because how can there be a happy ending when more books are coming and the drama needs to be drawn out in another 500 page book? But for some reason I keep coming back. I’ve been addicted to The Luxe series since it began and Envy continues to add more gossip and scandal to the story. I really like The Luxe, but then the second book, Rumors, seemed to move really slow. I was glad to see the story pick up again in this one. I loved that the author moved a lot of the action to Florida-it added new scenery and lots of fun situations. There were many times I told myself “just one more chapter” because I needed to know what would happen next.
Each chapter tells a part of the story from a different character and I found myself enjoying each storyline this time around. Yes, I still wanted to yell at Penelope, would get annoyed at Carolina’s social climbing, and tell Diana not to make so many stupid assumptions, but I think that’s part of the fun of The Luxe series. Anna Godbersen does such a great job at getting the readers involved in the characters that you can’t help but cheer them on, or even root against them. I also thought there were some characters this time around who got stronger and started to stand up for themselves, so I’m eager to see where they end up. The ending left me wanting more, of course, and I will be first in line to get my hands on a copy of Spelndor, the next (and final?) book in The Luxe series. I would recommend this to fans of romance or gossip girl style books.

I love the Luxe series! Great review!
ReplyDeleteMy girls can not put this series down. And neither can I! I can't wait for Splendor!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad there are other Luxe fans out there! I want Splendor to be the last book because I want the story to resolve, but I don't want it end either.
ReplyDeleteYep Splendor is going to be the last book.
ReplyDeleteI do want to see how it ends so I'm not sad. I do hope the author writes another similar series however! Maybe with new characters/location but with the same soap opera in a historical setting feel.
Is splendor going to be the last book?Aw i don't want it to end. It'll be cool if the Luxe series become movies, hopefully!
ReplyDeleteFrom what I could find, it'll be the last book. I think movie versions would be awesome!
ReplyDeleteI just finished the series and i am inlove! i love Henry and i felt very sorry for him! if there are any more books by this author or any more books like this PLEASE TELL ME! i am a big fan of historical fiction with a big scoop soapy drama-ness on the side!
ReplyDeleteEpicurian-There is one more book after Envy called Splendor. The author also has a series set in 1920's that you might like-the first book is Bright Young Things. And you might also like Wentworth Hall by Abby Grahame and The Flappers Series by Jillian Larkin the first book is Vixen. Hope that helps!
