The Contemps!

I love the idea behind this group and it features some of the coolest and nicest authors I know, so I'm spreading The Contemps love!

Celebrate realistic YA with The Contemps!

Who are The Contemps? "We're 21 authors putting real life in the spotlight, keeping readers up to date on the latest in YA contemporary fiction by blogging, tweeting, (over) sharing our own teenage experiences, and occasionally meeting up in real life."

With the popularity of genre fiction (especially paranormal) I think shining a light on contemporary YA fiction is a great idea. I had a teen come into the library who said she needed to find a contemporary book because her mom wanted her branch out and read something other than vampires and werewolves. It's easy to forget that there are contemporary readers that need contemporary stories, and I love that this group of authors is promoting that.

In addition to blogging on their site, they are hosting a Contemps Challenge-readers are asked to committ to reading 18 of the 21 upcoming contemporary reads between now and August 15, 2011. One lucky reader will win all 21 Contemps books!

The other thing I love about The Contemps is that they are talking about their teen years (no matter how embarrassing!) every Thursday and they'll even answer questions and share stories from teens.

So check out The Contemps and give contemporary YA fiction some love!

13 District Mockingjay Tour: District 4

Hello and welcome to District Four. I'm sorry that Finnick isn't here to be your host. I know as a member of District Four I should be cheering for my own tribute, but after watching the last two Hunger Games play out I have fallen in love with Peeta Mellark! Why do I love Peeta? He's smart, he's funny, and he's charming. He stands up for what he believes, he's loyal and he's not afraid to do what's right. He's sensitive and caring but can also be strong and kick butt. He fights for Katniss and with Katniss. Peeta is a great diplomat and he knows how to bring people together. He can also be sneaky to get what he wants. Plus, did I mention he can bake? And he's hot!! But it's not just me! We have an underground club of sorts here in District Four-Seafaring Librarians for Peeta! Here's what some of our members had to say about their love for Peeta: - Team Peeta!! I love their relationship because they balance each other perfectly. Where
