Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.
I don't always post Waiting on Wednesday posts, but I like to post them around ALA so I can keep track of my most anticipated books. These are books that my librarian self are very excited about and I can't wait to see if they live up the hype!
Why We Broke Up by Daniel Handler, illustrated by Maira Kalman
About the Book: Min Green and Ed Slaterton are breaking up, so Min is writing Ed a letter and giving him a box. Inside the box is why they broke up. Two bottle caps, a movie ticket, a folded note, a box of matches, a protractor, books, a toy truck, a pair of ugly earrings, a comb from a motel room, and every other item collected over the course of a giddy, intimate, heartbreaking relationship. Item after item is illustrated and accounted for, and then the box, like a girlfriend, will be dumped.
The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
About the Book: Mara Dyer doesn't think life can get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there.
It can.
She believes there must be more to the accident she can't remember that killed her friends and left her mysteriously unharmed.
There is.
She doesn't believe that after everything she's been through, she can fall in love.
She's wrong.

"The Unbecoming ..." has such a cool cover. So different. I like that one a lot! I'm super excited about Liesel & Po by Lauren Oliver and Wildwood by Colin Meloy. I actually joined NetGalley in hopes I could read them now ... alas.
ReplyDeleteTwo very different books, but both of them sound great. Thanks for sharing! You can find mine here
ReplyDeleteBoth of those sound good!
ReplyDeleteGreat choices! Read & loved Mara Dyer. Must mention that the Daniel Handler book is by far the heaviest arc I've ever been handed. Seriously, paper quality is intense--and hefty :)
ReplyDeleteI really want Why We Broke Up. That's awesome it's illustrated. I happened to get an unexpected ARC of The Unbecoming which I'm stoked about. It looks amazing.

I'm very excited for MH's debut! I like the sound of the first book too,
ReplyDeleteGreat choices! :)
I'm looking forward to both of them. They sound fantastic!
