Well hello! I know I've been terrible at updating the blog lately-a combination of summer reading program at work and committee reading at home has made for a very busy summer!! But I'm (hopefully) back as summer is winding down.
I've been thinking about this a lot. When you read a lot of books and see a lot of books in your library, you start to see trends showing up. So I thought I'd share some of the trends I've noticed so far this year.
"The Hangover" for Teens.
I was talking to a friend of mine about this trend and we were saying how it was an odd sort of trend. We were wondering if many teens had seen the movie. The "one crazy night" trend isn't new (think back to Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist) but it's coming around again it seems. Take a look:
From What I Remember by Stacy Kramer and Valerie Thomas
About: A group of teens wake up in Mexico and have to figure out what happened.
About: This one falls more under the "one crazy night" theme with teens competing in a scavenger hunt right before graduation.
About: Another "one crazy night" premise. Obessed with the graffiti artist Shadow, Lucy spends the evening trying to track him down.
I think this is a fun theme/trend. Stories about amazing nights and adventures are always popular, plus they are great summer reads!
Have you seen any other books that fall under this trend?

About: A girl wakes up in her prom dress after being ditched and has to piece together what happend. This is one I actually saw marketed with the line "The Hangover for teens."

Lauren Barnholdt's One Night That Changes Everything definitely fits this theme. It was pubbed back in 2011.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how I feel about it being called "the teen hangover trend." One crazy night I understand. Allusions to underage drinking? Er, not so much. Makes me a little worried . . .
ReplyDeleteSarah-Yes, that one fits too!
ReplyDeleteIlana-I know, that's sort of what my friend and I were talking about. Yet that's kind of the premise of the first two books. I've even heard them advertised as 'The Hangover for teens"-sounds like a strange comparison to me!
Graffiti Moon is one of the best books ever! Such an endearing, heartfelt book I've ever been exposed to.
